Mathematics

In Community School District 10, we envision a future for our students and staff where learning is spurred and led by students and facilitated by teachers. We want all students to see their value as mathematicians.

The goal of our district is to build a community of learners who understand and value that:

  • everyone can learn math at the highest levels,
  • mistakes are an integral part of the learning process, and
  • questioning is essential.

Our students will know math is about:

  • Creative thinking
  • Sense making
  • Identifying connections
  • Communicating ideas

We strive to develop scientifically proven teaching practices and strategies that engage students in learning activities which promote students’ mathematical abilities and achievement, while supporting the development of a positive mathematical self-identity.

Many of our schools in CSD10 are utilizing enVision Mathematics while supplementing it with various digital and print resources such as Zearn, Khan Academy, and i-Ready Math in order to increase student engagement and learning. Many of our students take the Algebra 1 Regents in the 8th Grade.

A capstone to Mathematical learning in CSD 10 is our Annual Middle School Math Tournament which brings together over 300 middle school students and their families for a fun filled day of mathematics competition and family workshops.

Zearn (Pilot Schools)

CSD10 has established a partnership with the non-profit organization, to provide digital resources for mathematics in grades K-8. Learning with Zearn gives kids more opportunity to learn math, always connected to core instruction.

Acadience

Acadience is an assessment tool utilized in our schools for Kindergarten through second grade.

Acadience Math helps educators gauge foundational math skills and provide targeted instruction where needed.

i-Ready

i-Ready Mathematics is an online custom math curriculum that provides students of all ages with differentiated instruction and supports them on their individual paths to success. Backed by cutting-edge research on best mathematics learning practices, students gain experience through concrete examples and engaging lessons. This personalized math curriculum features responsive instruction that provides consistent insight into student understanding and performance, enabling teachers to monitor their students’ progress and help them prepare for standards-based assessments and beyond.

The i-Ready Diagnostic saves time for both teachers and students. Classroom learning time is precious, and technology use should be reserved for high-quality, engaging, and productive learning experiences that are proven to benefit student growth. There are many rigorous research studies demonstrating the relationship between time spent in i-Ready and student gains in reading and mathematics. This insight informs the research-backed guidance we offer schools about the amount of time students should spend using the program to get the greatest gains and avoid overuse.
