CEC: Community Education Council
Education Councils are part of New York City's school governance structure. There is a Community Education Council (CEC) for every community school district. There are also four Citywide Councils:
- the Citywide Council on High Schools (CCHS)
- the Citywide Council on Special Education (CCSE)
- the Citywide Council on English Language Learners (CCELL)
- the Citywide Council for D75 (CCD75)
New York City's Community and Citywide Education Councils are charged with promoting student achievement, advising and commenting on educational policies, and providing input to the chancellor and the Panel for Educational Policy. Community Education Council (CEC) members act in a liaison capacity with the SLTs of the schools in our community school district. The liaison function includes attending meetings as observers and/or presenters, and participating on SLT committees and subcommittees when invited by members of the SLT. CEC 10 Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM. These meetings are in-person and the public may join in person or on Zoom.
